The Irish Freelancer’s Guide was created in 2021 to support freelancers* across the Irish animation and screen industries, and was expanded in 2025 to include the performing and visual arts.
*A freelancer is a person offering defined services, who typically works on multiple unique projects for different clients within a year.
This site functions as a manual and directory offering guidance in the areas of:
- Career Development; this section covers areas such as networking, upskilling, mentoring, and looking after your well-being.
- Tax; an overview of different types of business structures, employment status, tax obligations and helpful tips on invoicing, bookkeeping, and pension options.
- Managing your Business; covers the basic organisational structures you need to set in place in order to run your business efficiently — from equipment and software, to types of insurance and guidelines on pricing your services.
- Marketing & Communications; an overview of the basics to help you manage your online presence and brand effectively. This section also includes helpful tips for CVs, cover letters, and interview skills.
Finally, this site provides an extensive list of links to Industry Guilds, Unions, Member Organisations & Representative Bodies, co-working spaces and studio providers.
